One of the hardiest of the ornamental hawthorns, 'Toba is vase shaped, smothered in white blooms that turn pink in spring followed by showy red berries in fall. It is small in stature allowing it to grow in smaller areas.
The rough gray bark adds an interesting dimension to the landscape, often developing a uniquely twisted trunk. This tree does best in full sun to partial shade. It is very adaptable to both dry and moist growing conditions, but will not tolerate any standing water. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution.
