'McIntosh'-like dessert apple. Aromatic. Medium sized, dark purple-red fruit. Flesh white, firm and very high quality. Crsip texture and well-balanced flavor. One of the best mid- season apples. Keeps well.
Good for eating. When ripe, it has a deep purple or almost "black" hue, a quality reminiscent of one of it's parents, 'Jersey Black'. The Macoun has a short stem, which allows it to be "pushed" off the branch as the fruit reaches maturity. Fruit tends to drop when ripe.
